Our First Stop as Newlyweds
Fresh from saying “I do” in Sedgefield, our wedding road trip resumed — and our first stop as newlyweds led us to the unforgettable coastal town of Mossel Bay.
Over the course of our three-week journey, we explored countless destinations and crossed paths with incredible people… but Mossel Bay? It completely stole our hearts.
A Home Base in Hartenbos
We were lucky enough to stay with a friend in Hartenbos, giving us the perfect base to explore a place that was entirely new to both of us. There’s something special about discovering a town without expectations — every turn feels like a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered.
Exploring Beyond the Obvious
One of our favourite ways to explore any new destination is through geocaching — it always leads us off the beaten path, beyond just the typical viewpoints.
This adventure led us to unexpected spots and local treasures, including the beautiful Point Caravan Resort — a campsite that instantly made its way onto our “must-stay next time” list.
A Step Back in Time
Mossel Bay is rich in history, and we found ourselves completely immersed in it. We spent hours wandering through the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex and the charming Shell Museum, losing track of time as we explored stories of the past and fascinating collections.
Wandering the Heart of Town
The central Point area surprised us with its character — a mix of beautiful architecture, quaint coffee shops, and antique stores that invite you to slow down and browse.
Every street felt clean, cared for, and welcoming. The friendly locals only added to the charm, making the whole experience feel warm and easy.
Coastal Views & Good Vibes
No visit would be complete without stopping by the iconic St Blaize Lighthouse, where the ocean views stretch endlessly and the sea breeze reminds you exactly why you’re here.
We also had the chance to visit Blou Kombuis, where a friend works as a chef — and it quickly became one of our favourite spots in town. The atmosphere is effortlessly vibrant, with incredible food, live music from talented local artists, and a warm, welcoming energy that truly captures the spirit of Mossel Bay. Think relaxed, lively, and the kind of place you’ll want to linger a little longer.
A Place That Stays With You
There’s something about Mossel Bay that lingers long after you leave. Maybe it’s the balance of history and seaside beauty, or the welcoming energy of the people.
Whatever it is — this bay has firmly claimed a piece of our hearts, and we already know we’ll be back for more adventures.
