Our Little Slice of Paradise in Eswatini
Tucked away in the wild beauty of Mbuluzi Game Reserve, Mbuluzi Game Reserve Chalets & Camping has become more than just a destination for us — it feels like our secret home in the middle of nowhere.
It’s a place that holds some of our most meaningful memories… and it all started in 2024.
Our first visit in 2024 was pure magic. By chance (or fate), we had the entire campsite to ourselves — and from that moment, we were hooked.
There’s something incredibly special about Mbuluzi. It’s quiet, untouched, and deeply immersive — the kind of place where you instantly slow down and feel part of the bush around you.
We returned in January 2025… and this time, it became part of our love story.
At the iconic sundowner spot perched above the reserve — with sweeping views over the river and campsite below — Nicole said YES!
Fast forward to December 2025, and we found ourselves back again — now married — standing in that very same spot, reliving the moment and toasting to how far we’d come. It was surreal, emotional, and the perfect way to close out our year.
The campsite strikes a beautiful balance between rustic and comfortable.
Think:
Outdoor spiral showers that offer privacy while still connecting you to nature
Donkey boilers for hot water (a little effort, but so worth it)
And yes… toilets with a view — proper bush luxury
There’s no electricity at the campsites, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. We always come prepared with solar lights and power banks (check our gear page 😉), and once you’re there, being offline feels like a gift.
If needed, there is WiFi available at reception — but chances are, you won’t miss it.
A special mention has to go to Zamo — someone who has made every single visit even more memorable.
From our very first stay, he welcomed us with warmth and took the time to walk us through the map, making us feel instantly at home.
When we got engaged, he surprised us with a thoughtful gift after we casually mentioned it at reception. And on our most recent trip? After a disappointing stop at the local shop, we returned to camp to find a beautifully prepared package of braai’d meat waiting for us.
Zamo goes above and beyond in every way — attentive, kind, and genuinely passionate about what he does. We’re his biggest fans, and if you’re booking a stay, we highly recommend reaching out to him directly.
Mbuluzi offers a truly immersive bush experience.
You can cycle through the reserve and encounter wildlife like giraffe and wildebeest up close — no fences, no rush, just you and nature. It’s peaceful, grounding, and unforgettable.
We do recommend a 4x4 for navigating the reserve, especially during the rainy season, as some roads can get a bit tricky.
Why We Keep Coming Back
Mbuluzi isn’t just a campsite — it’s an experience. A place to disconnect, to celebrate, to reflect, and to just be.
With its affordable rates, incredible service, and raw natural beauty, it’s a must-visit for anyone craving the bush, the stars, and a little bit of magic.
Final thoughts:
From first visits to life-changing moments — Mbuluzi will always hold a special place in our hearts. And we know we’ll be back again… and again.

Cross-Border Tips: South Africa → Eswatini
Crossing into Eswatini is generally straightforward, but a little planning goes a long way — especially when you’re heading somewhere as remote and off-grid as Mbuluzi.
Valid passport (make sure it’s not close to expiry)
Vehicle papers (or a letter of permission if it’s financed or not in your name)
Check current border requirements before you go
Meat quality can be hit or miss in nearby towns
Stock up on:
Groceries
Snacks
Ice & drinks
Real talk: We struggled to find great meat locally — so if you know a good butcher nearby, we’d love to hear it!
Liquor stores are available in Eswatini during normal trading hours.
Do:
Pack smart and self-sufficiently
Declare items if required at the border
Embrace going off-grid
Don’t:
Assume you’ll find everything you need nearby
Leave essentials for last-minute shopping
Overpack — but don’t underprepare either
